Oasis of the Sea
When Royal Caribbean’s Oasis of the Seas® began service in 2009, it introduced a new standard of innovation to the cruise industry. As one of the largest cruise ships in the world, Oasis accommodates 5,400 passengers in 2,700 cabins and 28 luxury suites, and offers seven distinct neighbourhood-style areas including Central Park, the Boardwalk and the AquaTheater.
Smart technology on a floating city
Audico contributed significantly to the ship’s onboard technology by supplying a lighting control system that covers all public areas, premium cabins (Royal, Loft and A Class), and deck lighting. The public spaces are connected via Helvar’s router-based control solution, enabling flexible dimming and centralised mood lighting. For the first time, the lighting design prioritised not only ambience and comfort, but also energy efficiency and remote operation.
The system allows Audico to monitor, adjust and service the lighting setup from land while the vessel is at sea, using Helvar’s remote diagnostics and management tools.
Lighting for atmosphere, control for efficiency
In addition to core lighting control, Audico also delivered dynamic effects lighting and RGB LED fixtures to key entertainment areas, including the Boardwalk, Promenade and AquaTheater. These enhance the immersive atmosphere onboard and enable operators to tailor visual environments for different occasions.
As a first-of-its-kind system in the cruise segment, Oasis also pioneered remote-access lighting control and IT-based monitoring—paving the way for a new generation of sustainable, serviceable systems at sea.
A public address system built for safety at scale
Audico also provided the ship-wide public address and sound evacuation system—critical to onboard safety. With over 10,000 loudspeakers, the PA system covers every space on board and is among the most extensive ever installed on a cruise ship.
The system comprises six sound zones equipped with DSP and signal control, ensuring clear, consistent coverage in both normal and emergency situations. During routine operations, it is also used to broadcast background music in corridors and shared areas.
Technology trusted at sea
Cruise ships represent one of the most demanding environments for AV and control systems. Audico has delivered high-spec systems to over 40 luxury cruise vessels worldwide, as well as ferries and yachts. In these projects, durability, adaptability and flawless integration are essential.
In addition to AV and lighting control, Audico’s marine offering includes security systems, show and experience technologies, and comprehensive presentation and communication solutions. Each installation is custom-designed to withstand the challenges of ocean travel, while meeting the highest expectations in entertainment and safety.
